JOURNEY SCHOLARSHIP One of the greatest joys we can have is to see the youth in our community succeed in having the opportunity to attend college. Of course, this endeavor can be expensive, so scholarships become necessary. We are honored at WNC Communities to be the custodians of The Journey Scholarship for over a decade. This scholarship was established to grant scholarships to high school seniors in western North Carolina planning to further their education at a 2 or 4 year institution. The primary criteria for consideration of this scholarship are youth that excel in academic ability and achievement, have exceptional character and are involved in outstanding contributions to school and community. Applicants must be a member of one of the communities active in our WNC Honors Awards Program. This year 7 scholarships totalling $7,000 have been awarded to deserving high school seniors preparing to attend college. We are honored to announce the following Journey Scholarship recipients for 2010: In addition, we are pleased to announce that Miranda Johnson from Upward Community was chosen to receive the first Pat Brinkley Shulimson Memorial Scholarship of $500 to Gardner Webb University. Miranda is being awarded this scholarship for her outstanding leadership abilities. Journey Scholarship Applications are available in January every year.
